Fall 2021. The Israeli Daily Haaretz reveals that Rabbi Chaim Walder is said to have raped more than 22 women and children during his career. In Israel, the announcement caused an earthquake, and Chaim Walder was renamed the “ultra-orthodox Harvey Weinstein”. But in France, the media did not focus on this scandal.
For more than a year, journalists Lila Berdugo and Salomé Parent-Rachdi collected testimonies from victims who accused rabbis of physical and psychological violence. Most of them are talking about these traumas for the first time.
Through three profiles of predatory rabbis, this investigation goes up to the highest authorities of Judaism in France, to uncover a years-long conspiracy and reveal the specific mechanisms used to silence victims.
